HE DOESN’T NEED A FLASHLIGHT

“Just sharing a cool moment with y’all. My husband and I went outside on our front porch last night at 9:00 to pray. I didn’t see anyone else out on our street. When we were done praying I was shining my flashlight up in the trees and then just thought out loud, “God, do you see me down here?” To which he never missed a beat and said, “Yes, He sees you, and He doesn’t need a flashlight to see you either.” Thank You God that You do see each of us and thank You for blessing me with my husband to do life with.”

When I got this text from my friend, my heart paused to reread what she wrote…”God, do you see me down here?” I know she wasn’t truly questioning God. She was speaking thoughts we have all had out loud. Her husband just happened to be an audience to it. God used his quick reply to ease her heart and soothe her soul.

Hagar was a lowly slave who was ordered to be a surrogate for a baby by her master, then mistreated and abused by her mistress. She was pregnant, alone, and afraid. When she ran away, she thought no one cared, but God did. Her impossible situation was not overlooked by the LORD. He met her in a mighty way and sent an angel to reassure her.

**So Hagar gave this name to the LORD who had spoken to her: “You are the God who sees me, ” for she said, “Here I have seen the One who sees me!” Genesis 19:13

In these times we are facing ahead, God does not overlook the details of our lives, either. He sees the sleepless nights. He sees the worried parent who doesn’t know where their child is. He sees the checkbook that is overdrawn because of all the extra expenses. He sees the men and women who cannot work at the moment because of the crisis we are in. He sees the single parents and struggling families. He sees the moms and dads who are trying to work and make sure their kids keep up at school. He sees the teachers who were thrown into teaching in a fashion they were not trained for. He sees the pastor trying to encourage his congregation to continue to stay connected in this world of distancing. He sees the COVID patients on ventilators and who are sick at home. He sees the families who cannot comfort and reassure each other because they cannot physically be present. He sees the people in isolation who cannot have contact with others. The struggle is real, but thank God, He sees…and He doesn’t need a flashlight!

**He determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name. Psalm 147:4

**Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care. Matthew 10:29

**Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. Luke 12:7

Do those verses leave any room for doubt? There is not a single detail of my life that He isn’t involved in, the tiny issues and the life-altering events. He knows what is going on every…single…moment. Nothing that happens today in my life will take Him by surprise, and He cares.

What I do with the knowledge of God being up in my business is up to me. Will I invite Christ into my day and hand Him the keys, or will I delegate Him to the backseat? He sees the road ahead. He sees the good and the bad. He wants the very best for me. But I must allow Him to control. He promises to work all things out for our good, the good, the bad, and the ugly.

**And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28

Today, I want to put my flashlight down, look up to the heavens, and raise my hands to the Creator of heaven and earth. I want to take refuge in His promises and His arms. And, I want to take a break from the doom and gloom and just rest in the knowledge that He sees and He cares.

**The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.Psalm 18:2

“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest” Matt. 11:28 NASB

LORD, this morning I want to remember that you have 20/20 vision in all things, big and small. You see my joy, and You see my pain. You see my struggles, and You see my victories. You see my past, and You see my future. Gently remind me to give You the driver’s seat and allow You control. Thank You for being so involved in the intricate details of my life. Thank You for Your watchful eye and loving heart. In the days to come, remind me that You are my refuge and strength. Be with those affected mildly or severely by COVID. Be with their families and friends.

I want to grow up to be Barnabas (son of encouragement)! My name is Chris. My husband, Benny (the man of my dreams), and I live in a small community in West Texas. We have been married over 25 years. I am a mom of three, Xavier, Noah, & Sierra, (and adding more family every year) who have all left the nest in the last year or so. I am a pastor’s wife of Circleback Baptist, aka known as family for 22 years now. I am also a firefighter’s wife and love taking pictures! My heart is to be an encouragement to others, and I’ve always said I want to grow up to be a Barnabas. I don’t have any secrets or magic potions, I just want to share lessons I learn along this journey. I would be thrilled for you to ride shotgun!!
