IN DAD’S BED

JUST SO YOU KNOW, THIS ONE IS PREACHING TO THE PREACHER’S WIFE…

Rest For The Weary

There is rest for the weary
And there’s strength for the weak,
That is what God offers
To those who humbly seek

For it’s only in the seeking
That we will surely find
Rest for our weary bodies
And peace for our troubled minds

And it’s there in the asking
That we will come to know
God in all His splendour
With His wisdom, we will grow

And it’s only in the knocking
That the door will open wide
So we can walk into
What He graciously provides

So maybe for a while
We can rest along the road
And put on Jesus yoke,
For easy is His load.

**Take my yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. – Matthew 11:29

The alarm sounded.
Firemen scrambled out.
The lights flashed.
The sirens blared.
Silence filled the air.

While eating with Benny at the station the other day, he got a run. He left with his lunch still on his desk and his chair spinning. Sierra and I chose to stay and wait. We didn’t know how long he would be gone, so Sierra laid down on Benny’s bed to rest.

After Benny left, the engine got a run. The tones blared, dispatchers gave the address and nature of the emergency, and the rest of the station cleared out. With all the hustle and bustle around her, Sierra laid there unaffected.

It had been an early morning, and she was tired. She didn’t need to ask for permission to lay down…it was her Daddy’s bed. It was available, it was comfortable, and it was safe.

**”Step out of the traffic! Take a long, loving look at me, your High God, above politics, above everything.” Psalm 46:10 MSG

Sometimes our lives seem to run the way the station does. We rush around with a huge to-do list and when called out, we run at full speed. We have other people that depend on us, and with our phones and technology, we tend to be on call 24/7. Once in awhile, we need to pause. Climb in Daddy’s bed or in his arms and take a break. Sierra wasn’t worried about being shamed for laying on Benny’s bed. She didn’t feel guilty, either. In fact, when Benny got back from his run, it warmed his heart to see her there.

**My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest. Exodus 33:14

The world we live in never stops, and I have realized it never will. At times our souls are weary, our bodies are tired, and our minds feel like they will explode. Even then sometimes stepping away is hard. Unless we specifically carve out time for ourselves and those we love, it will not happen. We must be intentional and follow through.

**My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from Him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; He is my fortress, I will never be shaken. Psalm 62:1-2

God’s rest is always there, it is up to us to step away and ask for it. He will hide us under his wings away from the worries of this world for a little while if we will let Him.

LORD, this morning some of us are weary and tired. Some of us run full speed ahead and always seem to be a little late to everything. Slow us down enough to realize when we need to rest. Let us step away from the hustle and bustle for a moment. Give us a breather from our schedules that consume our minds and our bodies. We cannot do it all without taking room to quiet our minds and still our souls. Give us the wisdom to pause when we need to and sit with You. And only when we are ready, let us step back into life and resume our positions. Thank You for Your shelter, Your arms, and Your protection. Thank You for providing places like Benny’s bed that we can rest without feeling guilty. Amen

**My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26

**Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. Psalm 91:1

**Hear my cry, O God; listen to my prayer. From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For You have been my refuge, a strong tower against the foe. I long to dwell in Your tent forever and take refuge in the shelter of Your wings. Psalm 62:1-2

I want to grow up to be Barnabas (son of encouragement)! My name is Chris. My husband, Benny (the man of my dreams), and I live in a small community in West Texas. We have been married over 25 years. I am a mom of three, Xavier, Noah, & Sierra, (and adding more family every year) who have all left the nest in the last year or so. I am a pastor’s wife of Circleback Baptist, aka known as family for 22 years now. I am also a firefighter’s wife and love taking pictures! My heart is to be an encouragement to others, and I’ve always said I want to grow up to be a Barnabas. I don’t have any secrets or magic potions, I just want to share lessons I learn along this journey. I would be thrilled for you to ride shotgun!!
